SHELL BALANCE . MOLDED FIBER BEAUTY OBJECT

A sculptural molded fiber packaging sample created for Balance to showcase the material’s potential for beauty innovation, tactile experience and dimensional product storytelling.

Developed as a marketing sample for Balance, Shell Balance was created to demonstrate the creative and technical potential of molded fiber within beauty packaging.

The goal was to inspire design and marketing teams across prestige beauty by showing how a sustainable paper-based material could move beyond protection and become a highly dimensional, tactile and emotionally engaging object.

The development took over a year, moving through multiple rounds of refinement to balance form, function, material behavior and finishing. The final concept was imagined as a treasure from the sea: a shell-shaped compact system holding a collection of paper-based makeup palettes inspired by pearls, stones, texture and Mediterranean color.

MATERIAL & STRUCTURAL INNOVATION

The molded fiber shell was designed to showcase depth, relief and tactility. Its structure created a strong three-dimensional experience while remaining rooted in a renewable paper-based packaging approach.

Inside, the system revealed multiple paper palettes, including a large eyeshadow palette, a central pearl-inspired round compact and smaller stone-like palettes. Each piece explored a different print or finishing technique, including embossing, pearlescent papers, metallic papers, matte finishes, foil, transparent Scodix, volume, texture and swivel mechanisms.

INDUSTRY RESPONSE & BRAND ADAPTATION

Balance’s shell became a successful trade show and client-facing innovation sample, designed to spark conversation around molded fiber, sustainable beauty packaging and tactile product experience.

The concept later informed additional developments, including a handbag format and an adaptation for Benefit Cosmetics, extending the original shell language into a colorful PR package designed for product reveal, storytelling and influencer sharing.
